Fathers May Be More Influential on Children's Early Language Development

Once again, research shows that the role of fathers can be decisive! In early language development, involved fathers make a big difference according to a study in the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology. Researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Child Development Institute and UNC's School of Education found that in families where both parents held jobs, fathers had more of an impact on the language development of their children between the ages of 2 and 3. "Most previous studies on early language development focused on mothers," said Nadya Panscofar, a graduate research assistant and an author of the study. "These findings underscore that for two-parent, dual earner families, fathers should be included in all efforts to improve language development and school readiness."

Of course, it's a little obvious that the energy and effort of two people can make alot of difference both directly and by giving the mother a little encouragement, break, and help.
